Brain Glitch Guide: Six Rules and How to Keep Your Hearts
Brain Glitch is a reaction game built on a trick your brain falls for: the word RED printed in blue ink. You read the word before you notice the colour, and your job is to tap the right answer for the rule shown at the top, fast.
A Rush run has six stages of about 10 seconds each, so the whole run lasts roughly a minute. A rule card opens every stage and the rule stays on top the whole time. Each stage also shortens your answer window, from about two seconds at the start to about one second at the end.
Play Brain GlitchHow to play
- If it is your first time, play the short practice that introduces each rule, then tap Start.
- Ink: tap the colour of the ink the word is printed in, and ignore what the word says.
- Meaning: tap the colour the word names, and ignore the ink.
- Opposite or Don't tap: either tap the opposite of the ink (red against green, blue against yellow), or hold back completely when the ink matches the word, and otherwise tap the ink.
- Numbers: two digits appear in different sizes. One rule wants the smaller value even if it looks big; the other wants the one that looks smaller even if its value is bigger.
- In the final stage the rule changes with every card and the colour buttons may shuffle, so check the top every time.
Scoring and rewards
Each correct tap is worth 10 points plus a speed bonus of up to 5: the quicker you tap inside the window, the more you get. Correctly holding back on a Don't tap card earns a flat 10. There are no streak multipliers.
You have 3 hearts. A wrong tap, or letting the window run out, costs one, and the run ends when your hearts are gone or the stages are done. The server replays your taps against the same sequence, so every score is checked.
The Campaign has 60 levels in 6 sections. Stars come from your points, and the third star also needs at least one heart left; one star unlocks the next level. If you run out of hearts in the Campaign you can continue once with one heart for 5 coins. Rush has a weekly leaderboard.
Tips and strategies
- For the ink rule, look at the edges of the letters rather than reading them, as if you were looking at a paint blot.
- Learn the pairs before you start: red and green are opposites, and so are blue and yellow.
- On Don't tap cards, doing nothing is the answer. When in doubt, waiting beats a wrong tap that costs a heart.
- Do not trade accuracy for speed: the speed bonus tops out at 5 points, but a lost heart can end your run.
- If colours are hard for you, turn on Shape mode in the settings, and Reduce effects if motion distracts you.
