Charades on TIMOZ: Act It Out and Guess From Your Phone

Charades is the classic party game, minus the paper slips and the person stuck writing words. One player acts out a word without making a sound and everyone else tries to guess it. Here every player holds their own phone, only the actor sees the word, and the app works out who guessed first.

You need 2 to 8 players in a private room, each on their own device. By default a round lasts 30 seconds and a game has 6 rounds.

Players: Multiplayer · 2–8 players

How to play

  1. The host creates a room and shares the code or QR, and everyone joins from their own phone.
  2. Each player taps Ready, then the host taps Start.
  3. Every round an actor is chosen, and the role rotates so everyone acts once before anyone acts twice. The word appears on the actor's phone only.
  4. The actor mimes with hands, face and body, no words and no sounds. Everyone else sees who is acting and gets a box to type a guess.
  5. Wrong guesses are free, so clear the box and try again. The first correct guess ends the round immediately.
  6. If someone shouts the word out loud, the actor taps They got it and picks that player. If the word is too hard, the actor taps Skip the word.

Scoring and rewards

The first player to guess correctly earns 10 points, and the actor earns 10 too, for getting it across. If the actor skips, or time runs out with no correct guess, nobody scores that round.

After each round the word is revealed to everyone, along with who guessed it and your points for the round. Points add up over the game and show next to each player's name at the top.

At the end, the sole top scorer earns the room winner's coins and every other player who took part earns a coin. Coins are only for play inside TIMOZ and have no money value.

Tips and strategies

  • Open with a sign for the category: film, animal, food or an action.
  • Break long words into parts and act each one, or show the number of letters on your fingers.
  • When someone gets close, point at them and wave them on so they keep going in that direction.
  • As the actor, do not burn the clock on an impossible word. Skipping beats a wasted round.
  • As a guesser, type a lot and type fast. Wrong guesses cost nothing, and speed wins.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to spell the word exactly?
The app compares guesses after smoothing out common Arabic spelling variations, so you do not need to be perfect with every hamza.
Can the host end a round early?
Yes. After the first 20 seconds of a round the host sees an End the round button.
How many players do we need?
At least 2 and up to 8, each on their own phone. The more players, the more fun the race to guess.
