Word Search Guide: How to Find Every Hidden Word

Word Search is a relaxed solo game that trains your focus. You get a letter grid, usually 10 by 10, with a list of words to find beside it. Each grid has one theme, such as transport, jobs, the solar system or hobbies, and most hide between 10 and 17 words.

Words can run across, down or diagonally, in any of the 8 directions, so a word might appear backwards or read from bottom to top. There is no timer, which makes it a good pick when you want to unwind and play at your own pace.

How to play

  1. Read the word list first and get a feel for the grid's theme.
  2. Find the first letter of a word in the grid, then check the letters around it in every direction.
  3. Drag your finger or mouse in a straight line from the first letter to the last.
  4. A correct word is coloured on the grid and ticked off the list.
  5. When you are done, or feel you have found all you can, send your words. You can send only once.
  6. After sending, the game reveals every word so you can see what you missed and where.

Scoring and rewards

Each word you find is worth 10 points, even if you do not complete the grid, so every word counts. There is no speed bonus and no penalty for attempts; a wrong drag simply does not count.

There are no hints and no levels: each game is one full grid. Finding at least one word earns a coin as a solo play reward, and every game gives XP for the words you found, with a minimum of 5 XP for any finished game.

Tips and strategies

  • Hunt for rare letters such as ظ, غ, ث and ض first. They appear rarely in the grid and lead you to a word quickly.
  • Scan the grid row by row instead of looking around at random, then scan it column by column.
  • Do not forget backwards and diagonal words; they are the ones most players miss.
  • Long words are easier to spot because they give you more letters to hold on to, so start with them.
  • Before sending, check the list calmly. You get one submission and no clock is chasing you.

Is Word Search timed?
No, there is no timer at all. Take your time, but remember you can only send once.
Do I need to find every word to score?
No. Each word is worth 10 points on its own, so finding half the words earns half the points.
Can I play it with friends?
No, Word Search is solo only. Each player solves their own grid.
